This striking acrylic and graphite composition captures two ravens perched together on a weathered branch, their forms rendered in bold blacks contrasted against a daring abstract backdrop. The pair gazes outward in opposite directions—a daring visual metaphor for vigilance and partnership. Palette knife texturing creates raw, tactile wood grain while minimal brushstrokes suggest feather direction with economy and precision. Unexpected splashes of blue and purple pierce the ravens' silhouettes, injecting dynamic light and shadow into the composition. The abstracted pine forest setting surrounds them with gestural energy rather than literal detail, creating an intimate yet expansive mood. A meditation on companionship and mutual protection rendered with artistic confidence.

Having completed a commission painting that involved three ravens, I was inspired to paint a series of them. The small-sized canvases are sure to be collectors' treasures.

I plan to paint twelve of them in series of three. So, each series of three will have its own character and look.
