Painting Process
I painted over a black and white photo that I took of a reflected scene through a store window in Silver City, New Mexico. The shop carries nostalgic merchandise. Framing the bottom of the window on the exterior were black and white tiles. I had taken the photo on a diagonal. I kept the pattern of the diagonal tiles in the painting. Courthouse Butte in Sedona has a shape a little like the painting.
This is a made up scene of Courthouse Butte in Sedona, Arizona. I loosely followed a photograph after I had began the painting. I wanted to get a somewhat realistic rendering of it. The red rocks of Sedona have intense energy and anything can happen. So, I took liberties with abstraction around it. It measures 9 x 12 inches and I created it with acrylic paint on paper.
