I also didn’t want to fall in love too quickly with this painting, instead pushing it to go beyond the initial bones and structure that emerge early.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe subject developed as the painting grew through an intuitive process of laying down color.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs much as I want to let go and push paint around on the canvas, my inner painter seems to have other ideas. I resisted this final expression, almost arguing with the painting and my inner painter. But why fight it? In the end, I just surrendered and went with what wanted to happen. Specific curves and images required more care than I was willing to provide at the start. In time, I found that I love painting solid grounds, curves, painting around those curves, and being surprised at what shows up on the canvas. It is nothing like what I thought I would be painting. And who knows? Maybe this is my expression, instead of pushing paint around. I seem to take pleasure in caring for the painting and its expression.
